Kera Attempts to Become a Beautician

Here's what happened last Friday afternoon. Kera and I were laying in her bed listening to music, hoping that I could get her to take a short nap. Well instead I fell asleep. While I was sleeping, Kera went in my bathroom and got my hair scissors and decided that she would cut her hair. (Later when Dave asked her why she did it she said "because I wanted to be a ballerina".) I guess ballerina's have short hair or something? I really didn't notice it right away. She had her hair in a clip in the front. So later while I was on the computer and she was sitting on my lap, I took her clip out to fix it, and a bunch of hair came out with it. I was in shock! Then I took a closer look and noticed just how much hair she'd cut off. I told her to tell me where this happened and what she was thinking. So we went up to my bathroom and she showed me all the hair that she cut off. Luckily she was thoughtful enough to dispose of the hair in the toilet. She hadn't flushed it yet, and I could see a ton of hair in there! So my next step was to call the hair salon and get her an appointment for that night.

These are the before and after photos of Kera's experiment with being a beautician. I'm sure some of you have had kids do this before. I just didn't think Kera would attempt this so soon. She never played with the scissors or anything. Well, there's a first time for everything. Hopefully she learned her lesson and it will be the last time!

Valentines Hairbows

Sledding Fun

I took Jacob and Kera sledding at the park yesterday. They really wanted to build a snowman, but the snow was so soft and it wouldn't pack up into a ball very well, so we gave up on that idea and I told them I'd take them sledding instead. We went sledding another time about a month ago, and I planned on taking pictures of them with my camera, but my battery died. So I came prepared with fresh batteries yesterday. I really would love a new digital camera with a battery charger, instead of having to replace the AA batteries ALL THE TIME! That's on my wish list right now. Anyway, the kids and I had fun sledding down the hill a few times. Here are some videos and pictures of the trip. Enjoy!

Funny Prayer

I want to write this down here on my blog so I don't forget the funny thing Jacob said during the dinner prayer tonight. Jacob often comes up with some pretty lengthy prayers when its his turn to pray. Tonight he while he was praying he said "Please help us to Choose the Right and not to choose the LEFT". I couldn't help but laugh (to myself of course) after he said that. After the prayer I told him that I thought it was funny. I explained that when we choose the right, we're choosing the right way, not right or left, meaning a direction. He said, "well, when you choose the left that means you're making a bad choice. Okay, how could I argue with his logic? Kids come up with some clever stuff sometimes, don't they??

Just call him Coach Dave

Jacob signed up for kindergarten basketball this year through the Kaysville Park & Rec. Guess who signed up to be the coach...dad! Dave is experiencing his first time as the coach for one of Jacob's sports teams. He's really enjoying it so far. The had their first game on the 12th. It's very laid back, since they are only kindergarteners, and a lot of the kids have not played before. They don't keep score, and the only thing that the ref calls is out of bounds. So it makes for an interesting game. Jacob has a couple of wanna be pro basketball players on the team. One of the boys really got into it and kept reminding Dave that they were winning. Dave said they aren't keeping score. But the boy said, "I know, but we are winning, we've made the most baskets!" I guess that competitive spirit starts young. The season should prove to be a lot of fun, and I as the coach's wife get the responsibility of keeping the parents informed and making a treat sign-up list. All the important things to keep the team running smoothly. Here's a picture of Coach Dave with the team. The other guy is Nate, one of the boys dad's who volunteered to help Dave out.

Here is a slideshow from Kera's princess birthday party that we had on Saturday. We invited four other girls from the neighborhood and had them all come dressed in their favorite princess costume. The girls had a great time. They played "Pin the heart on the princess crown", they decorated their own tiaras, we had a Princess pinata, they had lunch and cake and ice cream and we even painted their fingernails! They truly were pampered little princesses.

Happy Birthday Kera

My little Kera bera turned 3 today! Yes this is a busy birthday week for us. Kera's birthday is the day after Dave's. I can't believe how quickly these past three years have gone. I remember bringing her home from the hospital, and now already she is 3. Kera has become such a big girl. Gone is my little baby girl, and now she is ready to move on to preschool years. She has been interested in music and dancing lately. I'll have to remember to post a video of her dancing on here soon. This morning I came downstairs and she was doing one of her dances. She called it the "pajama dance". She names her dance according to what she has on at the time. We gave her a little music keyboard for christmas that plays all types of rhythms and tunes. She loves picking the music and making up her dances. She also loves her Princess ipod that aunt Carrie gave her for christmas. There's a book that goes along with it. Her favorite song is "Hippity Hoppity Boo". (Bippity Boppity Boo from Cinderella). She is such a girlie girl. She gets herself dressed almost everyday, and most of the time she picks out skirts (and tights in this cold weather). Kera is so much like me, it's really scary. We have been having control issues lately. When I get mad at her and start to raise my voice, she'll raise hers right back and say "Wait, I'm trying to tell you something", and throw a little fit when she doesn't think I'm listening to her or if I try to tell her to do something she doesn't want to do. She is very strong-willed, but is also such a love bug. She has a really playful spirit and she makes us all laugh. She has a smile that lights up the whole room. I love my little girl!! Happy 31st Birthday Honey

Today is Dave's 31st birthday! The kids and I surprised him at work this morning with a balloon bouquet and some chocolates. It was my first time visiting him at work, so I got to take a tour of the office. I guess it was about time I stopped by, he's only been working there for a year!! After work we went to Red Robin for dinner, then came home and had cake and ice cream. Dave and I are also going to be lucky enough to stay overnight without the kids in Salt Lake at a Bed & Breakfast for his birthday. His sister Carrie will stay here and watch them for us for the night on Saturday.

All in all I think he had a good birthday. In honor of his specail day I thought I'd take an idea from a friend's blog and give Dave a little tribute:

Christmas Morning

Here's a look at our home on christmas morning. I love watching the kids come downstairs and seeing the sheer joy and excitement when they see what Santa has left for them. My parents were here visiting. They stayed at our house on Christmas Eve and they were there Christmas morning. It was fun having them there with us, and they got to see the excitement of the kids on christmas morning too. Jacob was awake in his room when I went in there at about 7:45 a.m. I was surprised that he hadn't come in our room earlier to wake us up. When I went in his room to see if he'd gone downstairs to peek, he said "no, I'm just waiting for everyone to get up." How thoughtful of him to let us sleep. Most kids would be up at the crack of dawn either begging their parents to get up or sneaking a peak at what Santa had brought. Hopefully every year he'll be so kind.

Jacob and Kera opening one of Santa's gifts, an Fisher Price Easy Link game system for the computer. Kera can now go downstairs, turn on the computer and get on the game system and play all by herself. It didn't take her long to figure that out!

One of the things Santa brought Jacob was an art desk with built in cupholders and a paper roll. He's really been into drawing lately. He would constantly be asking for paper to draw on. He'd scatter his crayons all over the kitchen table and have papers everywhere. He went through a whole Costco pack of construction paper, over 500 sheets in about a month. Santa thought he'd be smart and bring him this art table with a built in paper roll. I'm sure we'll be looking for more rolls of paper soon. He also got a Cranium Carnival Clubhouse, which he and Kera have had fun playing in.

Here's grandma showing Kera all the stuff that Santa brought her for Christmas. Her big gift was a Baby Alive doll that eats real baby food and even poops in her diaper. What was Santa thinking??
